  • In a new Instagram video, Dr. Pimple Popper removes a pilar cyst buried deep within a patient’s scalp.
  • The cyst seems to be small at first, but there’s much more beneath the surface than even Dr. Lee anticipated.
  • Dr. Lee says the contents of the cyst appears to be filled with supermarket “potato salad.”

In a new Instagram video, Dr. Pimple Popper — aka, dermatologist and TLC host Dr. Sandra Lee, MD — removes a pilar cyst that never ends from a patient’s scalp. Not only is the cyst never-ending, but it’s filled with “potato salad.” There is certainly plenty to marvel over with this explosive pop.

At the beginning of the video, the cyst can be seen peeking out of a small incision. As Dr. Lee tries to push the growth out with her fingers, the cyst ruptures, spilling out a thick substance.

“It’s potato salad,” Dr. Lee tells the patient, while an onlooker adds it looks like “store-bought potato salad.” The distinction from homemade potato salad, according to the onlooker, is that the off-white contents looks “mustardy.” The pilar cyst isn’t actually filled with a supermarket BBQ side dish, but an overgrowth of sturdy keratin.

While removing the cyst, Dr. Lee notices there’s much more beneath the surface than it originally appeared. As she pulls at the cyst with a pair of tweezers, the growth keeps coming and coming. Eventually, she is able to reach the bottom of the cyst and remove the the sac wall, which reduces the chance of the growth returning in the future.

In the clip, the patient shares that he had hoped the cyst would have spilled out like an egg yolk. Hopefully an eggy, mustardy potato salad will suffice.
